Carey, Loftus best of the locals at Irish Challenge

​​Irish pair card opening rounds of level par to sit four shots off leader at Sport Ireland supported challenge

Ireland's David Carey and Declan Loftus signed for opening level par rounds on day one of the Sport Ireland supported Irish Challenge hosted by Mount Wolseley.

Carey (20) who turned professional in 2015 had a mixed round, with an eagle and six birdies on his card for 72. Afterwards he tweeted "Interesting round out there today! Can't decide if it should be a lot better or a lot worse."

Sweden's Oscar Lengden is the outright leader on four-under par. The winner last weekend on the Challenge Tour is in a rich vein of form, his round included six birdies and two bogies.

Gavin Moynihan, the leading Irish player in the Race to Oman standings lies six off the lead on two-over par, the same mark as recently confirmed professional Conor O'Rourke.

Stuart Grehan is best of the Irish amateurs in the field. The Tullamore man is on four-over par.
