We caught up with James and put some all important questions to him.

How did you get into golf?

My auntie's husband took me up to the driving range when I was probably like eight or so.

What was your first prize in golf?

I think it was a prize in a junior competition in Mallow run by a lady called Jo Foley.

Your first cap for Ireland?

I think it was at Hilton Templepatrick in the four nations event.

What's your best score or round?

I shot 9 under in Mallow but in tournament golf it was last year in The Open Championship qualifying, 8 under par (64).

Ever had a hole in one?

No, never!

Driver or putter?

Oh, driver all day!

Your most memorable shot?

Probably at Portmarnock a few weeks ago, I hit a three-wood into the sixth - that was splendid!

Favourite par three in golf?

The 17th at Sawgrass.

The course you must play before you die?

I'm going to have to say Augusta.

Your dream four-ball?

Geoff Lenehan, Tiger Woods and Eddie Pepperell

Sporting hero?

Tiger Woods or Brian Corcoran

Favourite golf book?

The Big Miss - My years coaching Tiger Woods by Hank Haney

Any pieces of advice you've picked up along the years?

A friend of mine once told me to 'trust the process', I always remember that one.

James tees off at 6.35am on Thursday 18th July in round one of The Open.
