The South American Amateur Championships get underway in Chile from January 8 - 11 with a strong contingent of players from across the World.

First played in 2006, the event is open to both men and women with Clodagh Coughlan (Douglas), Sean Flanagan (Portmarnock), Rachel
Thompson (Cork) and John Murphy (Kinsale) representing Ireland for the 2020 edition.

Coughlan and Thompson played key roles in Munster winning the Women's Interprovincial title for the first time in 16 years last July. Thompson made her debut on the Ireland women's team at the Home Internationals last year while for Coughlan, this will be her first International representation.

Flanagan and Murphy are no strangers to the International stage. Flanagan, 2016 North of Ireland Champion and semi-finalist at the South of Ireland in Lahinch last summer, is a past Maynooth University Scholar. Murphy is currently studying at Louisville University in Kentucky and was part of the three-man Eisenhower Trophy team who represented Ireland at the World Amateur Team Championships in Carton House in 2018.
