Return to Work Guidance

The Return to Work Safely Protocol is designed to support employers and workers to put measures in place that will prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace, when the economy begins to slowly open up, following the temporary closure of most businesses during the worst phase of the current pandemic.

It the result of a collaborative effort by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), the Health Services Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health and the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation.

What should our club do for employees coming to work from May 18?
The Protocol should be used by all workplaces to adapt their workplace procedures and practices to comply fully with the COVID-19 related public health protection measures identified as necessary by the HSE. It sets out in very clear terms for employers and workers the steps that they must take before a workplace reopens, and while it continues to operate.

The protocols are very detailed and specific and should be read carefully.

In order to provide some extra support to clubs we have linked up with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Ireland (GCSAI) and highly regarded consultant John Donlon from Endsleigh Technologies Ltd to provide the key points and templates for clubs to use to help insure compliance with the protocol and the health and safety of all club employees.

It is imperative that all golf clubs ensure:

  1. The Safety of their employees in this COVID-19 crisis is managed to the highest standard.
  1. Compliance with the "Return to Work Protocols " and that when/if inspections are completed by the HSA that they are in compliance.

Below is a list of key items which will need to be addressed:

  • All employees must fill out a return to work form 3 days before starting work (Including Greenkeepers that have been working through the current restrictions)
  • Put in place a contact log to allow contact tracing
  • Communication/Consultation Training for all employees on COVID -19
  • Update Risk Assessments and Safety Statement
  • Take into account Risk and individual workers risk issues such as older workers etc.
  • Plan to respond to a suspected case should it arise

Please note: while greenkeeping teams have been working through the government restrictions, the back to work protocols still apply to all greenkeepers in their entirety.

Click on links below for templates these should be amended accordingly to suit individual club's needs.
