Ireland internationals Tiarnan McLarnon (Massereene) and James Sugrue (Mallow) combined neatly to secure second place at the 47th Copa Juan Carlos Tailhade in Argentina.

Hosts Argentina were too good for the visiting teams, finishing 12 shots clear of the field on level par but Ireland were best of the rest. McLarnon posted rounds of 70, 70, 75 and 68 to finish tied eighth in the individual standings while Sugrue was just outside the top 20 -- his best score coming in round three with a one-under 69.

Attention now turns to the Argentine Stroke Play Championship, which takes place at Highland Park Country Club from 7-10 November.

McLarnon and Sugrue were selected for both events by the Golfing Union of Ireland. These tournaments form part of the GUI's High-Performance Programme, which is supported by Sport Ireland and Sport NI.
