Lyons wins play-off to claim Munster title

​Bridgestone Order of Merit points see Lyons enter race for Ireland call-up at Lahinch

Galway's Joe Lyons laid claim to his second-ever GUI championship at Cork Golf Club on Sunday, landing the Munster Stroke Play after a sudden-death playoff with Eanna Griffin (Waterford) after the pair tied on a four-round total of 288 (level par).

The 47-year old bridged a 12 year gap since his last title, the West of Ireland at County Sligo in 2007.

In winning, the former Irish international picks up important Bridgestone Order of Merit points. The top three players in the Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn selection for Ireland in the Home Internationals at Lahinch,

Defending champion Alan Fahy (Dun Laoghaire) finished fourth and picked up the leading player under 25 - picking up the Carr Bruen Trophy.
