Ireland Boys international Luke O'Neill won the German Boys Championship by one shot after a thrilling final round at GC St Leon-Rot.

Leading by two strokes going into the final round, O'Neill carded a 70 (two under) to complete a memorable victory. The Galway teenager edged out Germany's Philipp Katich, a member of the host club, by one stroke.

Katich took the lead during the closing round, moving ahead after 12 holes having picked up six shots. However, a triple bogey seven at the 14th derailed his title challenge.

Felix Krammer moved into contention when he holed out for an ace at the 13th but he lost momentum with back to back bogeys. O'Neill, three under for his round through 14, wobbled with bogeys on 15 and 16 but birdied 17 to separate himself from the remaining challengers.

A closing par ensured the title went west, to Connemara, home of the new champion.

Next best of the Ireland players in the field was Joseph Byrne (Baltinglass), who tied for 35th on level par.
