Joseph Byrne (Baltinglass) and Joshua Hill (Galgorm Castle) have been selected by the Golfing Union of Ireland to play the European Young Masters in Czech Republic (25-27 July).

This year's event takes place at Kunětická Hora in Czech Republic. Byrne played at last year's tournament in Oslo, Norway where he tied for 33rd. Hill, making his debut, is enjoying a fine season and was a winner of the Leinster U16 Championship in June.

The European Young Masters is contested over 54 holes by the leading U16 players in Europe. Additionally Byrne and Hill will compete for Ireland, along with ILGU representatives Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Castle) and Anna Dawson (Tramore), in a subsidiary Nations Cup. The three best scores will count each day toward the team's score.

The GUI's High Performance Programme at underage level is supported by Sport Ireland, Sport NI and The R&A.

Peter Waddell (Knock) will accompany the GUI players.
