The FORE GOLF sponsored Connacht Golf Order of Merit categories are always very keenly contested and followed throughout the playing season and 2017 is expected to be just as eagerly played out.

Already Barry Anderson (The Royal Dublin) has established his intentions in capturing the West of Ireland Amateur Open and Munster Strokeplay Titles in his bid to regain the Senior Title he last won in 2014. Despite this flawless start to the season he is being very closely pursued by Alex Gleeson (Castle) who is chaising three straight Order of Merit titles in a row.

In the Boys U18 race it is David Kitt (Athenry) who leads the way after the opening event, the Leinster U18 Boys Open being closely followed by Liam Power (Galway) and Connacht's form player of the last 12months, Andrew Hickey (Ballyhaunis) with 2016 OoM winner Ross Kelly (Tuam) close on their heels.

In the U16 race there has also been just one outing so far, the Munster U16 Boys Open at Blarney Golf Club and it is Athlone's Eoin McGrath who has taken an early lead with Darren Leufer (Athenry) and Darragh Connolly (Castle Dargan) filling 2nd and 3rd.

The U14 race is just one event in also, the Connacht U14 Open at Strandhill and it is all Roscommon at the top of that show with three of the first four places filled by their junior startlets - Thomas Higgins, Kevin Connaughton and Cian O'Connor with Luke Cunnigham (Mountbellew splitting them.

The Veteran category has its first Championship in the week commencing Monday May 15 with Co. Tipperary hosting the irish Seniors Open Championship.
