Following the conclusion of the respective Munster Seniors Amateur Open and the Irish Amateur Close Championship at Galway last month the respective FORE GOLF Order of merit Champions at Senior and Veteran level retain their crowns.

In the Senior category the outcome of the table was still in the balance entering the Irish Close with both holder, Alex Gleeson (Castle), and multiple championship winner in 2017, Barry Anderson (The Royal Dublin), both in contention. As it transpired Gleeson retained his title by the same margin with which he entered the week in Galway as both he and Anderson exited the Championship in Round 2 of the matchplay.

The Veteran crown was already heading back to Westport for 2017 as Liam Halpin had an unasailable lead over nearest challengers Kevin Sheehy (Athlone) and Richard Joyce (Oughterard). Halpin finished his season in style however with rounds of 73, 78 giving him a Top 10 finish at Lee Valley.
