2018 may in fact be a statement year for many years to come for Connacht Golf given the unprecedented level of championship and inter club successes achieved by its players and clubs.
It was a wonderful display of silverware whiuch greeted Delegates, Award Winners and Guests who attended the Connacht Golf Annual Delegates' meeting in the McWilliam Park Hotel on Tuesday 27 November.
Connacht Golfers scooped three of the four provincial U18 Boys Open Championships, the only one eluding them being Munster. Two Students Championships with victories for in the Irish Students and Munster Students. The Ulster U14 Open and Connacht U16 Open trophies also being won by Connacht players. The Ulster Mid Amateur and Irish Mid Amateur trophies would also make the Connacht mantle in 2018, as did the Connacht Strokeplay, that's grand total of 10 Championship wins in a single season for Connacht.
Then on the Club front three of the seven National Green Pennants available went west of the Shannon - Barton Shield, Irish Junior Cup and irish Mixed Foursomes Challenge Cup.
This certainly was unlucky thirteen for Connacht. When you add International caps to the mix accross every age group from U14 to Seniors Connacht iscertainly, like its rugby colleagues firmly holding its own on the national and indeed international stage.
many of those who achieved these wins were in attendance to pick up personal awards in the FORE GOLF Order of merits for 2018 which were awarded as follows by the Branch Chairman, Michael Heaney on the evening -
