Royal Dublin's Sean Downes takes the lead at the Leinster Boys Amateur Open Championship at Waterford GC today. Downes was level par at the turn, but his round came to life with an eagle three on the 15th.
One shot back in second place lie Josh Mackin (Dundalk) and Simon Walker (Roscommon), who shot impressive rounds of two under, 69. Mackin had a 32 on the front nine which included a hole-in-one of the 7th, whilst Walker was very consistent with halves of 34 and 35.
In joint fourth is a group of four, Aidan Quigley (Woodbrook), Luka Keyes (Dun Laoghaire), Dylan Keating (Seapoint) and Shane Irwin (Killeen) on one under par, 70.
Local hopeful, Alex Byrne had a memorable day with a hole-in-one at the 16th and is still very much in contention with a score of 72.
