Trailing 4/1 from the first leg, hopes were high that with home advantage the boys of Wexford would overcome the deficit and lift the Barton Cup who like their opponents were striving to win it for the first time in their club’s history.

With tee shots rifled up the first of the five pairs set off in search of the holy grail. Over the front nine fortunes see – sawed and by the turn Wexford were up in 3, level in 1, and down in 1.
First blood was drawn by the Wexford pair of Sean Flood and Aron Mc Keown winning on the 13th. However shortly afterwards in the third match, The Island pair of Joseph Hanney and James Stenson won 4/3, making it one all on the day.
In the top match Gary Lynch and Tommy Morrissey won 2/1 to edge Wexford in front and keep their hopes alive, but their hopes were short lived as Jack Blake and Rory Govan secured the all important point winning 3/2, to win the Barton Cup for the first time.
The final match was given as all square.
Scenes of unbridled joy followed as The Island supporters swamped their players, and whilst the winning margin was 6.5/3.5 The Island were very happy to overcome a gallant Wexford team.
