26-30 July 2017

The South of Ireland Championship takes place at Lahinch Golf Club between 26th and 30th July.  Our leading amateurs participate in Ireland’s oldest Championship and last year the championship had nine of the successful Irish Home International team participating with Conor Purcell (Portmarnock) being crowned our 2016 Champion.

Lahinch Golf Club is celebrating its 125th Anniversary and it is the 116th South of Ireland Amateur Open Championship.

Pierse Motors Volkswagen, based in Tipperary town, are delighted to confirm their sponsorship of Ireland’s oldest Championship. Gary Pierse, Managing Director of Pierse Motors, commented “We are delighted to continue with our sponsorship of the South of Ireland Championship. Lahinch boasts one of the finest golf courses in the country and I have no doubt that the event will be a huge success once again.”

Padraig Slattery, Captain Lahinch Golf Club, said “the South of Ireland is the last major opportunity for our leading amateur golfers to impress selectors before the Home Internationals which will be held at Moortown GC between 16/18 August. Lahinch Golf Club is appreciative of the support of the Golfing Union of Ireland in ensuring that our leading golfers have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of previous winners such as John Burke, JB Carr, Paul McGinley, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell.”

Jim Long, Chairman of the Munster Golf, Golfing Union of Ireland said “the Munster Branch of the Golfing Union of Ireland is delighted to continue its long association with Lahinch Golf Club. The South of Ireland Championship is one of the oldest and most prestigious championships in the world and we wish all the competitors well when the tournament commences in a few weeks. The roll of honour of past winners truly reflects the high esteem in which the South of Ireland is held by both the players and supporters of amateur golf.”
