Munster Semi Finals & Final
at Killarney (Killeen) Sunday 16 July 2017

Killarney’s famed Killeen course will play host to the first of the AIG Cups & Shields Munster Finals next month.  The 2010 & 2011 Irish Open venue will stage the semi-finals and finals of the AIG Jimmy Bruen Shield and AIG Pierce Purcell Shield on Sunday 16th July.  Qualifying to reach this stage is always a difficult task.  13 venues across Munster were used in the Jimmy Bruen qualifiers with 75 matches reducing the 76 clubs down to just four semi-finalists.

Ballykisteen have again reached the semi-final stage of the Bruen.  They won a couple of tight matches with two separate matches requiring additional holes before the Tipperary side advanced.  They will face Newcastle West and will be hoping that the recent experience will stand to them.  East Cork pulled off a shock win in South Munster when they looked as if they were all but beaten in the area final, they’ll face Nenagh in the second semi-final.
The Pierce Purcell matches took place in 12 separate venues with a total of 73 matches taking place in the area qualifiers.  Hosts Killarney will no doubt hope that local knowledge will assist them in their semi-final match against Shannon while 2016 beaten finalists Thurles will be hoping to go further this year.  Their semi-final match is against Mahon.

The semi-finals and finals of both competition will take place on Sunday 16th July and a large crowd of supporters is expected in Killarney for the popular competitions.

Cormac Flannery, General Manager of Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is looking forward to hosting the finals: "We are delighted to be hosting the Provincial Finals for the Bruen and Purcell.  We have invested very heavily in all 3 courses over the past few winters and Killeen in particular has had significant work done on holes 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 10.  We've worked very hard over the last four winters and course conditioning has improved to a level never experienced before at the club.  It will be a great test and should make for fantastic matchplay excitement!  Best of luck to all teams involved and of course to our own Purcell players and management."
