Galway Bay's Adam
Challoner shot a two under par 70 today to win the Munster Boys Under 14
Amateur Open. The teenager went around the Tralee links in 70 strokes,
which included five birdies. Challoner had a double bogey on the tricky
17th hole but recovered with a birdie on the 18th to become the clubhouse
leader. The birdie on the 18th proved crucial as he would end up winning
by one over second placed Aiden O'Carroll (Powerscourt). Sean Keeling
(Roganstown) was third after finishing with a three over par 75 after many of
the later starters struggled with wind and light rain.
Jack Murphy (Douglas) won the Munster Under 13
Close Championship which was also held in Tralee today. Murphy carded a two over par 74
to win by two strokes from Tralee's Mark Gazi. Over 100 golfers entered
the championships, which was played on the world famous Arnold Palmer designed
links. The course was in great condition and Munster Golf Chairman Jim
Long thanked everyone for their help in a very successful start to the 2019 championships.
