Killarney Golf & Fishing Club Killeen course in the Kingdom plays host on a glorious sunny Tuesday morning to 120 Senior players vying for the Munster Seniors & Munster Veterans Cups.
36 holes will be played over Tuesday and Wednesday. The two-time Irish Open course Killeen should provide a stiff but fair challenge. The event is kindly sponsored by Provest Private Clients.
Several former winners tee up. Holder Billy Donlon was an impressive winner in Ennis last year and he will be hoping to retain the title while 2017 winner Garth McGimpsey will also challenge for a second title. Cork's Tom Cleary makes a return to the championship after missing last year due to illness, the three-time winner last won in Waterville four years ago and the steely competitor would make history if he was to collect a fourth title. Michael Coote (Tralee) is in his home county and local knowledge may help the 2011 winner. There are several other challengers too, and Alan Condron lead the handicaps playing off +2 while Steven Graham from Doneraile is playing off +1. John Mitchell, Karl Bornemann, John O'Brien and Bob Loftus are among the other Munster Challengers that could very well bring the trophy back to the province. The lower age limit of 50 brings in a few new entrants, including Cormac Finn from the host club and Lee Valley's Pat Power.
