It has taken 48 matches across the province to get to this stage. Unlike other Cups & Shields events, the Michael Cashman is self-refereed and scheduled between the participating clubs. The semi-finals took place in August, and now the finalists will have a chance to claim one of the last Munster pennants of 2019. Limerick beat Tralee in Newcastle West three weeks ago to reach the final, their campaign also included wins over Nenagh and Castletroy. Monkstown started their campaign in June with a win over Fermoy. They saw off Mallow in the next round and Clonakilty in the south section semi-final. They defeated Bandon in the area final and after that they beat Tramore in the Munster semi-final which was held in Waterford Golf Club.
Sunday's final tees off at 12pm in Mitchelstown, the first time the North Cork parkland course will have hosted the event. The Michael Cashman Cup will be presented to the winners on the day, and they will go on to compete in the All Ireland Club Fourball finals in Roe Park in September. The cup was donated by friends of the former Munster Golf Chairman in 2016, on the launch of the All Ireland Club fourball competition. Slievenamon won the inaugural event in East Cork. Ballykisteen won in Fermoy in 2017 and Nenagh were the winners last year when Limerick hosted the Munster Final. The fourball competition is limited to over 30's with a handicap of 15 or higher.
