Hugh wished both teams well and hoped that they would enjoy the clubs hospitality and the course. The two teams, Hilton Templepatrick and Co Cavan Golf Club’s were in good spirits, while a little apprehensive were keen to get the show on the road. The match scheduled for 2.30pm started on time and while there were a few nervous starts on the first tee, all settled down to an interesting and very competitive final. Both team Captains Ray Irwin for Hilton Templepatrick GC Pat Denning for Co Cavan were playing Captains and left the advisor duties to the deputies Brian Hamilton and Paul Cooney respectively. The first two matches were all square after nine and showed little in the way of anxiety. It was definitely a very relaxed and friendly time for both matches. Match three Ian Henry and Trevor Hicks for Templepatrick with Rodney Lyons and Pat Munroe for Co Cavan taking it all in their stride were three up after twelve holes. The fourth match favoured Hilton Templepatrick and their paring of Ray Irwin and David Willis putting up a strong performance being our up after 13 holes. Matches five was evenly balanced, however, all was to change as Co Cavan pulled away from the front down the straight. It was between matches one and three who would be the first to score a point for Co Cavan. It was to the first match with paring of Jim Green and Jimmy Murray who lead the way for the Cavan team, beating Davy Whiteside and Allister Mc Allister from Hilton Templepatrick 3-1. For match two, the twelve was a defining moment when Niall Sheridan for Co Cavan sunk a 10 foot putt for a par on this the index one hole. The pairing never looked back after that, their confidence grew and their match was over when Frank sunk a par putt on the 16th winning their match 3-1. In match three Hilton Templepatrick rallied for a while and managed to get it back to three down with three to go, but Rodney and Pat were going to lie down. Two good tee shots on the 16th, one from Pat and another from Trevor Hicks, Hilton Templepatrick saw them battle it out in a putting completion on the green. Pat was first to put and left it stone dead at 2 foot from the pin. Hilton followed suite with a brave effort at birdie, but it was not to be. The first three matches went to Co Cavan and the All Ireland Fourball - Ulster Section winners were Co Cavan.Photo: Co.Cavan Team Captain received the Ulster Plaque and Ulster Fourball Trophy from Eamonn O'Connor Imm Past Chairman GUI Ulster Branch courtesy of golffile.ieCo Cavan now represent Ulster in the All Ireland Finals at Roe Park on the 14th and 15th September 2109 and we wish them ever success.
