Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh hosted the 2020 Pierce Purcell Shield Ulster Final. Due to current restrictions, the match had to be played without the support normally associated with this event.
The finalists from Moyola Park and Dunmurry had to endure severe weather conditions as they teed off on Sunday 4 October.
The first nine holes were very even with Moyola just edging ahead. The highlight being a hole in one at the 165-yard par 3 5th hole. Moyola Park’s Matthew McNabb holed out with a fine 5 iron shot.

Moyola continued to press on in the back nine and secured the first two points with wins by Bryan O’Neill/Adrian Diamond and Matthew McNabb/Steven McKenna.
However, wins by Dunmurry’s Martin McAuley/Vinod Tandon and Maurice Ferguson/James Keag left the match evenly poised.
With daylight fading it was left to the final pairing of Frankie Campbell/Luke Pedan to secure the victory for Dunmurry on the 18th green.

Congratulations to Dunmurry, under the captaincy of Gareth Shirlow, who will now return to the Donegal venue to represent Ulster at the All Ireland Cups & Shields Finals later this month.
