European Team Championships Qualifying
The Irish Women fought hard on the second qualifying day of the European Team Championships in Portugal. With 5 from 6 scores to count each round, Ireland were -3 for the day moving them up the leaderboard to 10th position overall, just 3 shots short of qualifying for the top flight of matchplay.

It was an even more disappointing day for the Girls' Team in Finland after they began so positively. Rounds of 72, 68 left Annabel Wilson tied for 3rd individually while Lauren Walsh carded scores of 70 and 73 for a top 20 finish. The team finished in 12th position however and now qualify for the 2nd flight in which they emerged victorious in last year. They will face Norway in the first of their matches on Thursday morning.

They will be joined by Lauren Walsh (Castlewarden), who holed the winning put at the Girls’ Home International matches on her Irish debut in Conwy last year, and Sara Byrne (Douglas) who having posted some very positive results thus far in 2017, most impressively a 3rd place finish at the prestigious Fairhaven Trophy earlier this month, earned herself a spot on the Junior Vagliano Trophy team who competed against the Continent of Europe in Italy last week.

“Myself and Chris are really looking forward to heading with this team to Finland,” said Team Captain Gemma Butler, “the girls have had some fantastic results so far this year and after winning the second flight at the 2016 European Championships, we are excited to build on that result this time around.”
