In a new venture this year the ILGU District Girls’ Championships were run in conjunction with the world renowned Faldo Series.

Now in its 23rd year, the Series proves its global reach by kicking off with the Faldo Series Middle East Championship, at Al Ain Equestrian Shooting and Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. This event was followed by a whirlwind five months for the Series with events taking place around Europe and the rest of the world, highlighted by eight regional qualifiers around the UK and Ireland and the Faldo Series South America Championship in Brazil in June.

The Faldo Series Europe fittingly concludes at Al Ain for its Grand Final in November, where some of the world’s best juniors will go head-to-head.

In recent years, with the national and international amateur golf calendars becoming saturated with events, participation in District Girls’ Championships has dwindled. To combat this, the ILGU and The Faldo Series joined together and each District Championship this year counted towards an Order of Merit – the top four players from which have been selected to attend the Faldo Series Grand Final.
