The Women's Senior Amateur Championship begins at Royal St. David’s in Wales this Wednesday. Laura Webb, originally from Cairndhu Golf Club in Co. Antrim, will seek her third win at the event.

Webb is the only player who has played for Ireland at Girls’, Women’s and now Senior level. She won the Irish Girls’ Close Championship at Milltown in 1979 and went on to win the Irish Women’s Close in 1988 and 1994. She completed the trilogy when she won the Irish Senior Women’s Close at Athenry in 2014.

In 2016 Webb broke through on the International stage as she won the Senior Women’s Amateur at Caldy, just two years later she won again at Crail by a mere nine shots. Already showing form this season, she qualified in 7th place at the US Senior Women’s Championship, eventually bowing out to Sue Wooster (Australia) in the quarter final. Additionally, at last week’s Senior Women’s European Team Championships where Ireland won Bronze, Webb qualified second individually and was unbeaten in all three of her matches.

Webb will be joined by Kate Evans, Mary MacLaren, Sheena McElroy, Gertie McMullen, Alison Taylor and Laura Webb for the 54-hole event.
