FRIDAY: Play began at 10:45am. All original tee times adjusted by 2 hours 45minutes.

The second day of the AIG Ladies Cups and Shields National Finals comes a close with tears of joy and disappointment at Knightsbrok Hotel and Golf Resort.

The AIG Senior Foursomes final will be played between Limerick and Massereene as Courtown and Woodbrook bow out.

Ailish Dilger, Limerick Team Captain said: ‘It was a great battle out there today, played in great spirit. Our top two matches performed extremely well, their short game was superb and they didn’t do a lot wrong. We had great support from Limerick so fingers crossed we go all the way tomorrow.’

The AIG Intermediate Cup final will be a replay of the 2017 final when Loughrea pipped Mullingar at Malone. Mullingar narrowly overcame Monkstown today in a semi-final match that went to the wire.

‘It was a tight affair in the end,’ explained Team Captain Aideen Mulligan. ‘We had two early wins and then two matches which were down so we were relying on our fifth player. It was her first time in a clutch situation but had a very experienced caddy so I was relaxed that she would bring Emma [Keena Duffy] in and she won nicely on the 17th.’

Tomorrow’s final will bring emotion for many reasons, and Mullingar will want to make amends for 2017.

‘Everything after this is a bonus, when we won the District Final we were the most delighted team. I’m only in the club five years but there have been so many teams and managers before us that have gotten close. We all have our own stories in life and it’s emotional, but we’re the happiest team in Mid Leinster today!’

As for their opponents, Tanya Whyte secured the winning point for Loughrea against Castlerock on the 19th.

‘Head down and swing easy, that’s all I could do!’

The AIG Ladies Cups and Shields continues on Friday with the continuation of semi-finals and finals from 8.00am.
