Royal Tara's Sophie Sharp claimed the Golfer of the Year Trophy after the final event of the East Leinster Junior Winter Alliance at Carton House Golf Club.
It was very close in the end, with a number of players in contention going into our final event. Division 1 winner Charlie Maxwell (Royal Curragh), Division 2 Sophie Sharp (Royal Tara) and Division 3 Tara Cunnelly (Naas). After a count-back of final day scores, Sophie claimed Golfer of the Year award.
It was a case of two trophy's in two days for Sophie, as she also won the Murland Cup Match play in the Ulster Girls' in Warrenpoint the day before.
With a full timesheet on the day, the girls took to the Montgomery course and came in with great scores in tough weather conditions. Our individual winners on the day where; Class 1 Emily Murray Co Louth. (10) 40pts, Class 2 Lauren Dancis Grange Castle (19) 42pts, Class 3 Iseult Costello Castleknock (34) 43pts. Our 9 hole winner was Sophia Lanigan Hermitage (36) 12 pts.
Jackie Quinn, East Leinster Chairperson, Brenda Craig, Junior Development Chairperson and Margaret Tucker presented the beautiful prizes on the day.
The winter series is organised by the East Leinster Junior Development Committee, which runs 18-hole stableford, 9-hole stableford and 6-hole scramble competitions every month over the winter. Our alliance is growing every year and this winter we had over 60 girls taking part.
We had six outings over the winter months and we would like to thank Castlewarden, Beaverstown, Rathfarnham, Co. Louth, Sutton and Carton House for allowing us the courtesy of their courses to run these events.
