Report for East Leinster District Irish Senior Cup Qualifying.
What a weekend of golf. Dun Laoghaire GC is some setting for your Senior Cup Qualifier. It doesn't take any prisoners. The course (lower/middle) was in immaculate condition with some very testing pin positions. Early on Saturday 16 teams lined up ready to test themselves and their opposition. We saw some fancied and maybe some not so fancied teams come through round 1. Last years winners and runners-up were still there for the quarter finals and through to the Semi's. The semi line up saw Elm Park, The Island, Laytown & Bettystown and the resurgent Woodbrook team go to battle. Elm Park v Woodbrook was so close - the deciding match going to the 22nd. In The Island v Laytown & Bettystown another close affair with 2 matches going all the way to the 18th. Nerves a frayed - tense isn't in it. An exciting final beckoned between Laytown & Bettystown and Woodbrook. After some closely fought matches, Woodbrook emerged victorious to the great delight of their many supporters who were highly visible in their bright yellow jackets. The last time Woodbrook won their District final was in 1987. Well done Woodbrook we wish you well in Killarney as our East Leinster District Winners.
