From a highly competitive field Kate Lanigan emerged the winner in the Leinster Girls Championship played over the links of Laytown & Bettystown G.C this week. It was a closely fought final with Anna Dawson (Tramore) the advantage switching throughout - hard to call the outcome until the end.
It was a testing but fair course set up, that challenged but rewarded good shots and course management. The three days of golf were played in the most part in glorious sunshine. As with any links it was the wind that changed with the tide that tested these young players. They produced the goods - playing impressive golf that the members of Laytown & Bettystown were in awe of.
We had most of the girls who next week will meet each other again when they play for their provinces in the Girls Interprovincial Series in Mount Wolsley.
Well done also to the winner of the Plate - Katie Poots (Knock GC) and winner of the Trophy - Caoimhe O'Shea (Elm Park). Build on the experience of this week.
To Kate - who will represent Ireland in the European Girls Team Championships next week and to her fellow teams mates we wish you good luck, play well and enjoy the experience.
