The correct dress attire is important. Check before you play what the golf club's dress code is. Usually it will be the following: collared shirts, V-neck or round-neck jumpers, long pants or dress shorts, golf shoes or trainers.

To play on the golf course, each player must have their own golf bag. In the bag, there should be golf clubs, golf balls, tees, ball markers, pitch mark repairers and pencils. The maximum amount of clubs for one person is 14, but there is no minimum. There is no need for 14 clubs when beginning to play golf. A putter, wedge or 9-iron, 7-iron, 5-iron or a hybrid, 3-wood or a driver is enough to get you started.

When purchasing a set of clubs, be aware that there are different lengths, shaft flexes, shaft materials, weights and grip sizes. In order to find the best one for you, ask a knowledgeable professional for their advice. Having a poorly suited club will make it much tougher to hit the ball correctly and swing the club easily.

GOLFNET TIP: Don't be shy. Ask questions! A PGA professional in your local club shop or high street outlet will be delighted to assist.
